Hazmat Tanker Driver Job Description

Alta Transportation, a subsidiary of Alta Fuels and a division of Pester Marketing Company is a Colorado based fuel and oil distributor delivering petroleum products to both the wholesale and retail markets throughout Colorado, New Mexico, Kansas and Nebraska. With a fleet of over 30 truck-transports, Alta Transportation loads and hauls fuel to all 57 Alta Convenience (sister company to Alta Fuels) stores and Alta Fuels customer sites, directly from pipeline terminals (Colorado and New Mexico) and from Alta Fuels’ Alamosa and Pueblo West automated fuel terminals.

Our CDL truck drivers are responsible for the safe haul and delivery of refined fuels and oils from the terminal to our customers to our bulk and warehouse facilities.

Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Proper pre-and post-trip truck and trailer inspections
  • Safely driving loaded and empty tanker trucks of various sizes, makes, models, and configurations
  • Properly loading and unloading fuel product
  • Handling, hooking and unhooking hoses
  • Operating pumps and valves for loading and unloading (both on and off the truck)
  • Safely filling tanks of all types and sizes using various sized hoses, nozzles and fittings
  • Safely using pipe wrenches, crescent wrenches, hammers and other hand tools
  • Accurately complete driver logs, pre-and post-trip forms, invoices and other paperwork as required
  • Courteously work with bosses, dispatchers, fellow employees and customers


Job Qualifications

Must Have:

  • Class A CDL with tanker and hazmat endorsements
  • Current DOT Medical Card
  • One (1) Year Full-Time Verifiable Tractor-trailer tanker experience
  • No More than two (2) moving violations in the last two (2) year


Must Be:

  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Able to work in all weather conditions
  • Able and willing to work long hours, including day and night shifts
  • Able to drive truck off-road, on roads that are narrow and have steep inclines
  • Able to properly install tire chains in snowy, icy and muddy conditions
  • Able to safely climb ladders and walk on top of truck tanks
  • Able to stand and/or sit for prolonged periods
  • Able to lift 40 to 80 lbs
  • Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and in-truck driving test


Job Disqualifications:

  • Excessive Speeding Ticket Within the Past Year
  • Preventable/Recordable Accident Within the Past Year
  • DUI or DWI Within the Past Five (5) Years
